Student Leadership Team
At Barton Clough Primary School we have a student leadership team. Two children from every class, from Year 1 to Year 6, represent their class on the student leadership team at Barton Clough, which is elected by their peers at the start of the school year. The elected children will speak to children in their class and then bring any ideas or issues to the meeting to discuss with the team.
The purpose of this team is to help children and young people to:
- enjoy school
- share their ideas
- feel that their school listens to and responds to their opinions
- play an active role in making their school a better place
- feel confident in putting forward their viewpoints on things that are important to them
Our student leadership team meets once each half term, with Mrs Gribbon. They meet to discuss different issues in school which can include the school environment, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events. Our focus at the moment is around supporting and promoting reading in school. Last term, the student leadership team decided to do a sponsored read to raise money for the school to buy lots of new books. They also organised a ‘book swap’ – children brought in a book that they no longer wanted and were able to swap it for a different book which they hadn’t read – this event was a big success!
