Welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage
Welcome to Barton Clough’s Early Years Foundation Stage.
The children at Barton Clough have the best possible start to their education with high-quality enriching activities to enable their learning through a play-based framework.
At the centre of our practice in EYFS is the unique child. We have designed our curriculum to be based around children’s interests and fascinations under the In The Moment Planning (IMP) approach. We have developed a rich enabling environment to enable the children to make accelerated progress across the 7 areas of learning; Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional, Physical, Literacy, Maths, Understanding the world and Expressive arts and design.
Reading and phonics is a key priority in EYFS. Children take part in daily phonics learning activities. Through adult interactions, daily nursery rhymes, stories and a literacy rich environment we promote the importance and love of reading.
Children in reception take home reading books to read with their parents in line with their phonics reading level. Children in reception also have their own pack of phonics flash cards and key words including de-codable and non de-codable to practice at home with their families.
We hold annual parent workshops to inform parents of phonics and reading strategies in school. We model and give suggestions on how they can support their child’s reading at home.
